The Musikaboonlert brothers say they intend to be every bit as famous as Mick Jagger's gang
After several years of doing their own thing in the music industry, bro-thers Pakorn and Karn Musikaboonlert have joined forces, forming a pop-rock duo called Knock the Knock and coming out with a self-titled debut album. "The new album is very different from my last CD with Siam Secret Service: it's looser, especially in the guitar parts," says older brother Pakorn, who goes by the name Beam, and who produced Lucy Sui- cide's EP "Missing Daytime", Apartment Khunpa's "Rom-antic Comedy" and "Somros Lae Para", as well as Mo- moko Motion's "Punk in a Coma". Karn, or "PupPup", founded the now defunct Lucy Suicide. "Lucy Suicide's sound was partly Brit-rock, but less guitar-driven than Siam Secret Service or even Knock the Knock," he says. While Knock the Knock call themselves pop rock, the music is inspired by the alternative rock of the '70s through the '90s. "Pup's songwriting style is similar to a comic book," says the 32-year-old producer. "When we're in the studio, it's like we're painting on a canvas with our favourite colours." The first two cuts, "Wan Wela Thi Hai Pai" and "Hak Ther Tong Pai", are already favourite spins on Fat Radio, and the title of the former seems to hark back to Lucy Suicide's "Klangwan Thi Hai Pai". "The name is similar," Pup agrees. "But the melody is a lot heavier." Are the boys going to stick together for more records? "We've almost completed our second album," says Beam with a grin. "My idea is to make our songs as memorable as say those of the Rolling Stones or the Beatles."
