Students with high stakes

Daily Xpress
Published on July 4, 2008

At least 10 tertiary students are in trouble because of gambling debts, the Education Ministry says.

Spokesman Wattana Sengpairoh says their identities will be revealed to the police for investigation.

The ministry is encouraging the seven or eight schools involved to discipline students using existing regulations, rather than expel them.

He says the ministry is working on ways to prevent students from falling victim to gambling.

Police want staff at universities and vocational colleges to warn students of the dangers of betting.
